So you’ve mastered the garter and stockinette stitches. Let’s spice that up, shall we? Today’s lesson is the Hurdle Stitch! This easy stitch creates a fun, textured pattern that looks phenomenal on tons of fun projects.
The hurdle stitch has a waffle-like pattern that’s super fun to touch and squish. It’s one of those knitting stitches that can easily be your go-to when you’re in the mood to knit but don’t have the brain power for more complicated stitches.
Ready to learn your new favorite stitch? Grab your knitting needles, some yarn, and a couple of stitch markers. Let’s get knitting!
The hurdle knit stitch is simple and straight-forward. You don’t really need a lot. Here are some important details you need to know to learn this nifty knitting pattern:
The hurdle stitch may look pretty advanced. But it’s actually one of the easiest knitting stitches ever. You’re pretty much just repeating 4 rows. Yes, just 4 ROWS to get this snazzy waffle-like texture.
Knit all the stitches. Place markers of the same color at the end of every row. When you have 2 markers lined up, it’s time to start Rows 3 and 4.
*K1, P1* until the end of the row. Place markers of the same color at the end of every row. When you have 2 markers lined up, it’s time to repeat Rows 1 and 2.
Keep stitching rows 1 to 4 until your project reaches your desired length!
After a few rows, your swatch should like this photo below. Cool, right? The hurdle knit stitch instantly became one of my top favorite patterns to use whenever I’m itching to make something with my knitting needles!
