Another Loom Knitting Adventure Starring Scarves!

Beanies are the most common patterns for knitting looms but they aren’t the only things you can make on a loom. There is a seemingly endless list of projects that can be done on a single knitting loom. Today we’re going to explore another popular category: SCARVES!

What You Need for Loom Knitting Scarf Patterns

Loom knitting is very different from traditional knitting. You will need a few special tools to make the magic happen! So let’s go over the basic necessities of this knitting method:

  • Knitting looms – You need the right type of knitting loom in order to create your loom knit scarf. Make sure to check your loom knitting pattern’s list of materials for the suggested loom type and measurements!
  • Yarn – Loom knit scarf patterns often have their own yarn suggestions, so make sure to check those out too in the “recommended yarn” section! Pay attention to the yarn weight and suggested fiber type if you’re going to choose a different yarn than what the designer recommends.
  • Scissors – A pair of scissors is another important tool that you will use for all of your knitting projects. You’ll need them to cut yarn tails and hide loose ends.
  • Stitch markers – You might need stitch markers to keep track of which round you’re on. Using stitch markers that can open and close, also called “locking stitch markers”, are perfect to ensure that they never fall off and cause you to lose your count while you work. If you don’t have stitch markers, use a strand of scrap yarn or a thin paper clip—preferably in a bright color so it’s easy to see.
  • Yarn/darning needle – You will need a yarn needle or darning needle to sew in the loose yarn ends.
  • Pom pom makers – Some loom knitting scarf patterns might ask you to add some pom poms on the edges. Making sure to have a set of sturdy pom pom makers on hand is a must!
  • Free loom knitting scarf pattern – Oops! Don’t forget to pick out a loom knitting scarf pattern from this list!
