What You Need to Knit Headbands!

These knit headbands may have different levels of difficulty, but they have one thing in common: all you need are the basic knitting materials! So let’s take a look at what these might be:

  • Knitting Needles – To complete any knitting project, you will need a pair of sturdy knitting needles. Check your yarn ball’s to see what the suggested needle size is before you get started. Pro tip: For beginners, we recommend that you opt for needles that have some “grip” to prevent your yarn from slipping off the edge. A great pair to start with are wooden knitting needles!
  • Yarn – Your knit headband should be comfortable to wear. This is where yarn material comes into play! Acrylic yarn can be a good option because it’s washable and afforadable. Cotton is a great alternative, however it’s not as elastic as other yarns. Lastly, wool yarns are cozy but might be itchy for people with sensitive skin. Always test out a new yarn by touching it to your neck or the inside of your wrist to see how it feels.
  • Scissors – A pair of scissors is another important tool that you will use for all of your knitting projects. You’ll need them to cut yarn tails and hide loose ends.
  • Stitch markers – You might need stitch markers to keep track of where you are in a given pattern. We love using markers that can open and close, also called “removable stitch markers” for all knitted projects!
  • Yarn/darning needle – You will need a yarn needle or darning needle to sew in the loose yarn ends.
