What’s the difference between Finger Knitting and Arm Knitting?

Both finger knitting and arm knitting use just your body to knit super cool and easy projects! As you might have guessed, finger knitting keeps the stitches on your fingers while arm knitting loops the yarn around your arms. Arm knitting can use more stitches and make much bigger projects than finger knitting.

Common Finger Knitting Questions

Learning to Finger Knit can be fun and easy! We answer some common questions to get you started.

To begin finger knitting you’ll just need some yarn and your fingers, that’s it! To weave in your yarn tails you might want a yarn needle too.

  1. For finger knitting, the most important thing to figure out is what yarn weight you want to use! Pick a medium-heavy weight yarn to make a nice tight fabric without the yarn being too big to fit between your fingers. The perfect weights for adults are also called aran/chunky/bulky while kiddos can go with a lighter weight like “worsted” or “sport” weight yarn. Learn more about yarn weights here!

No! You don’t need a pattern to make a finger knitting project. However, patterns can be great for beginners because someone else has figured all the steps out. Not sure how long to make your blanket or scarf? A designer has already figured that out for you!
